The Ir'Martel family

The Ir’Martel family

The ir’Martel (M-ar-tell) family is an old Cyran family with misty origin and a dark fall. The family was originally farmers that held large tarts of land north of Seaside. Little is know about them during this time. The family came to power when Sandar (sand-d-ar) Martel married the sister of the Duke of Seaside. A year after the marriage the duke die in a boating accident. Few people believed that it was an accident, many believe that the ir’Martel family kill the Duke to gain nobility, title and control of the land. But no one could prove the theory so Sandar came to power. Although the family came into power through suspicious events, the city of Seaside flourished and became a very important port. The Martel family grew in power over the next 600 years until 750 YK when Darthen (D-ar-then) ir’Karven (c-ar-v-an) Count of Jarp started to weave a plot to destroy the Martels and shatter the Empires. Darthen’s plan was to have a Halfling tribe attack the Metrol and at the same time sending agents go kill the governor-prince of Cyre. As the armies are totally focused on Metrol. Darthen would launch an attack on Seaside and take the ir’Martle land. The plot never happen thanks to Valter ir’Martel, Duke of Seaside. Valter had agents in Darthen’s household and the information about the plot was given to Vatler, and he then gave it to the governor-prince. The Count was kill after his trail and his whole family was striped of there titles and banished. The peace for the Martel was short lived.

When the Last War broke out Isti ir’Martel, Duchess of Seaside was made High Lord Admiral of the Cyran Navy, thanks to her navel battles against pirates. She made the navel headquarters of the Cyran navy in Seaside. Even with Seaside as Isti headquarters she spent most of her time on her Elemental flag ship, The White Dawn. In her gone, political enemy in Seaside started to move in. Isti left her daughter, Itlan, in control of the city as she was leading the navy, this gave the Karvens the opportunity to kill the Martel line. Iltan was attack four times my Karven agents. By this time the Valenar was comeing to Cyre aid. A unit of Elite cavalry was hired my the family to protect Itlan form any more attack. Itlan soom fell in love with the Valenar commander. There relationship grew and they got married. This was a great blow to the Martel’s enemies. With the line blended with Valenar blood it made Valenar under the family’s command there personal elite army. The live on as the Last War rage on around them.
The nest important event in the family’s history involved Verden ir’Martel. Verden was the son of Itlan, he was a blending of two races and it showed. He whore traditional Valenar armor and one of the best houseman in Sothern Cyre but he was just at on a ship and with a book as his grandmother. When the Karrnathi surrounded Metrol, Verden lauched an attack on the surrounding lines. On land he leaded a forces of 200 of his family’s personal guard and 500 footman. From Lay Cyre he launched 10 battle ship. Verden was to late to save the city form the Karrnathi attack. He drove out the mast remaining troop and took control of the city. With the city walls all but gone and he started the rebuild of the city. A year later he retuned the city back to the King of Cyre. Coonos rewarded Verdens efforts my gave him the new title, Prince of Seaside. The ir’Martels had at last reached the top but in the shadows the doom of Cyre and the fall of the Martels.

The a crippling blow was the creation of Valenar. With the creation of Valenar seaside was on the border with a new nation and it’s leader and elite gaud were Valenarians. This fact made many noble in the north fear that Verden would break away and join the elves. At the same time Queen Dannel was losing her hold on Cyre. In order to show is loyally he put his support behid Queen as noble started to talk about plan of replacing her. In the end it had worked a verden had keep his family in power.

In 980 YK Verdan’s daughter, his child from when he marred to the queen’s sister, took over for her father. She lead Cyran navy in some of it’s Greatest Sea battles of the War. But Anna would soon be trapped with enemies on all sides. Anna was at her family’s summer estate on the east cost of Lake Cyre when the mouning happen. She whatched as a wall of mist washed over the land. She knew that her home land was destroyed and her families was dead alone with her homeland. Now she is alone and surrounded by many enemies.

Plot Hocks

  • Anna is trap with on all sides my Halfling, Elves and the Mournland. She as hired parties in to attack the different group and make it look like the other group attacked them.

Atur Academy

Atur Academy is a centuries old academy in Atur, that is little known outside the academic community. It is known for it’s focus on necromancy but it has very little resources compared to the Universities of Morgrave, Korranberg and Wynarn. The Academy was established by Count Beren ir’Vairn in his 1000 room estates over 600 years ago in the city of Atur. The Count established the school in the hopes that he could learn the secrets of the elves and to teach them to people that wanted to know there ancient ways. The academy has grown over the years from a school focused on necromancy to an school with class on different types of so called “dark magic” as well as history and inventions, although necromancy in still at the for front of the academy.
The leader of the Atur Academy is the oldest descendent of the ir’Vairn line. This has caused many problems within the line because Beren made it so that the oldest descendents get very thing and all others get nothing. The Family is intertwined with death because the children of each generation try to kill one another in order to become the oldest child. The leader of the Atur Academy is Countess Varden ir’Vairn of Atur (N female half-elf, aristocrat 4/ necromancer 7/ wizard 6). She has one brother how she crippled when she was 16 when her brother attack her to get the right to become the leader of the Academy.
Thanks to the Last War the Academy has got a lot of help from the government and the Blood of Vol. However, with the Blood of Vol being banded the school has “official” stopped taking help form the church. With the governments money the school has sent many expiations to Xen’dark but has come back with little thanks to Morgarave University taking artifacts and stone tomes and putting them on display. This has made the School and the Countess very upset. With the Vardens contacts in the government, she has agent in the university slowly stealing the artifacts away to take them back to the school. The school has also started to working in a new field, the magic of the daelkyr. The school has had few books on the daelkyr and they have wanted there collect to grow form a two centuries and now with the government backing them and the Last War over they have started to move in the west and unlike the cases with the elven necromantic artifacts, they found many artifacts and tomes. With this boost in the daelkyr knowledge the Countess as her eye on the lock away work of a former student of the Academy. Vardens is has plans to get her hand on the work of Mordain the Fleshweaver in the Tower of Twelve.
With the study of dangerous magic there comes restrictions, secrets and factions. The Academy is very different form others in the academic circle thanks to how small there student body is. The Academy averages between 200 to 250 students and they have 40 teacher with 5 to 6 students to each teacher. This helps them keep an eye on the students so they so they do not do anything that can get other students killed or that can destroy something that could make the government think about funding the school. The Countess is very strict when it comes to this and she does not give second changes.
There are several factions in the Academy divided between what magic they study, races or wealth. The strongest of these is the Dark Five. The Dark Five are the five students that student under Countess Varden her self. These are the five best students of the Academy. They learn spell that only the most powerful necromancer and dark wizards would know. This position gives the Five a lot of power in the school, they get the best book, materials, private rooms, best food and power over other students. The Five do not only get privilege in the school they also can get into high ranking jobs with in the government, money and land, or they can chose get a letter that can get them in to any school they want to. Like the line of there Headmistress students have kill students in order to get in to the Dark Five which is how it got it’s name.
But just because Countess and her apprentices have kill to get where they are, most of the students are not evil they just find thing that people think are evil interesting. A group that shows this is the Line of Blood. The Line is a group of people that are members of noble families that think the ways of the Blood of Vol is powerful but they do not believe in the Blood of Vol. They believe that blood and noble family blood as a lot of power in it and they plan to use it. There main goal is to become some of the most powerful necromancers in the world and then become lichs in order for them to live for ever. There is one that has become what they all dream to be. There leader and founder of the group is a teenage elf named Vestar Talaear (N lich [elf] wizard 10) who made himself a lich. No one knows that he that he even exists because he lives in one of the wing of the manor that is never used and he has cast a spell around his rooms in order for no one can find him.
Key Locations:
The Library of Shadows: This is the schools library with a collection of over 4000 books from necromancy to daelkyr. It is open to all students but no one can take other then the Dark Five. All books are real own by the Countess and will not take some one some much as folding a small corner let alone being written on. Many people have been kick out of the academy for doing so. The library is look after by a great shadow name Darthen who was created by Vaden after the death of the former librarian. The in center of the floor is a mosaic of the a diamond scull with but one tip is replaces with to fangs, around the scull is a ring of runes. This is the symbol of the school and when a spell is cast the stones between the scull and the runes become stares leading to the vault were the school keeps all its artifacts.
The Countess’s Floor: This Floor is the privet floor of Countess Varden ir’Vairn of Atur. It contains her personal library, laboratory, her bed room, her privet museum where she keeps all her family heirlooms and a room here she teaches her students.
The Vault of the Dead: This vault is here the school stores its bodies that they are going to use and this is also where they store there undead

Thrane Branch of House ir'Ithen

The Thrane branch of the ir’Ithen line is fill with drama and power plays. The branch was created when Aven and his small group followers betrayed the house and joined with the Thrane invaders as they attacked Thaliost. Aven was given the title of Count and given estates in Shadukar and Flamekeep as well as keeping the estates in Thaliost. Aven did not live to long thought, he was killed in the distortion of Shadukar. This left the estates in the hands of his twin children, Jolrana and Dairden. Like true to the family’s stubborn and aggressive nature. They split the estates in order to not get in to that fight but they do have there fights. Form words to money to swords they do not stop fighting with each other. Countess Jolrana ir’Ithen has set her up shop in Thaliost while Bishop Darden ir’Ithen lives in Flamekeep.
Jolrana is a rich and powerful noble and it shows. Her black hair always as some luxurious item pined in it and she can be seen in a beautiful gown and outfit. Most people see this and think that she is a rich noble living off her father’s wealth and does not know anything, but there are far from right. She when to the Library of Korranberg and was top of here class but she is not all looks and books. She trained with some of the best fighters in Thrane and she can not be found with out at least a dagger with her at all time. Jolrana believe that Diani ir'Wynarn should rule Thrane although she believes in the Silver Flame she think that the corruption in the Church has lead it away from it’s path.
Jolrana is married to a low leveled noble named Thdaren ir’Garthen. Thdaren married her because he thought that she would be easy to control and he would get to run her money and land but he was mistaken. The tables turned and Jolrana got control of his few holdings and then sent him to live in a small country estate in southern Thrane. She does not see him at all and the only reason that she married him was to get people off her back to get married and gives her time to look at some men with out them trying to get her favor.
Daieden is very different then Jolrana. He lives in the Cathedral of the Silver Flame with his wife Marden ir’Marktaros and there 17 year old son Vardith. He is a traditional bishop and he does not go far form Flamekeep. He lets his son Vardith run his estates out side the church. This is not the best move because Vardith does not agree with his grandfather when he turned on Aundair. This gives Raven the chances to get Daiedens land for herself.

Actives
Jolrana own tea shops around Thrane and export tea to other nations around the world. This business is a front for Thronholder bases and the money is used for missions and noble how have lost they money and land for supporting the Queen in the open
Daieden wants to become apart of the Council of Cardinals. In order to do this he combined knowledge of the Cathedrals holy library, the library of Korranberg and Blood of Vol Genealogical Records to find one of the last descendents of Tira Miron. He is will do any thing to get her to marry his son and give birth to a baby, making him the Grandfather of the Descendent Tirs Miron and making his line on of the most powerful in Thrane. He believe this will make the Council will invite him in with out Question.
There Father was rewarded for turning on Aundair and leaded the Thrane to victory in there attack on Thaliost, with land in Thrane and Estates in Flamekeep and Shaukar. The Two wish to rebuild Shaukar in the hopes of getting back heirlooms and to rule the city. For Dairden it is one more step to become apart of the Council of Cardinals and Jolrana Hope this will give her Queen a stronghold and a base to lunch a campaign to take the country.

The Aundairian branch of the House of ir'Ithen

The Aundairian branch of the House ir’Ithen is the main and oldest branch of the ir’Ithen line. The Branch is based in an ancient villa-manor on Lake Galifar and controls land all over Aundair. The leader of the branch is Baroness Raven ir’Ithen is one of the most powerful woman in Aundair and many see her as the heir to the House ir’Ithen‘s holdings and heirlooms. Baroness Raven has rebuilt the branch over the years to become one of the strongest noble branches in Aundair. The branches holdings have grown form the one villa-manor to estates in Fairhaven and Stromhome, vineyards, orchards and farms across Aundair, magical item shops and shipping in Fairhaven. Her power is not only in the world of land and money (but it real helps), she is also a wizard of great power and is a member of the Arcane Congress. She is very loyal to the Queen and when her father die she join the Royal Eye. Today she is an elite agent with her own agents and she only answer to the Queen.
Raven has no children unlike her great ante and two cuisines. She believe that she is to young to have children and she does not want to bring them in to the world only to be manipulate by the other branches. That does not mean that she will not do it. She does have a lover but few would guess how he is or what he does. Her lover is Solen ir’Darvy, a half-elf King’s Citadel agent from Breland. They meet when she was on a mission to enter the King’s Citadel’s headquarter in Sharn. The two governments do not know that there agents are in love with agents from different nations. Solen lives in to Passage but he spends most of his time with Raven. The two do not interfere with there missions even if it has something to do with there nation. Raven is the only one in her family that knows about Solen and the three leaders of the other branches would love to use this against her.
Raven does not sit around with Solen and go over how much money she has and rant about how she is the heir the ir’Ithen line. Spends six months in Fairhaven at court and the other half the year, she spends that are on her time between her villa and Arcanix. From her villa and her estate in Fairhaven she gives missions to her agents. She also use her trading ship that are headed to Breland thought the Lake Galifar to move Aundairian troops in to the Eldeen reaches. Raven has a lot of political power and need or want and anything she will either have it or know how does. She can be a very helpful patron and one of the most powerful enemies you will ever have

Eldeern Branch of House of ir'Ithen

House of ir’Ithen has been one line for over a 1000 years. The first brake in the house happened when Baroness Kara ir‘Ithen bought a tract of land between The Towering Wood and what will become Havenglen. She hindered a group of rangers and sailed down the Wynarn river. As she exploring her new lands for a places to start building a manor for herself, she found a Gatekeeper Observatory on a cliff. Seeing the beauty of the ruins and feeling the magic of nature in the places she built her manor around it. Kara spent 15 years learning the ways of a druid as well as creating field, orchards and vineyards with her lands and hunting praetors in the wood.
As the war raged in the Five Nations, Kara gathered druid tomes, artifacts, rare plants and watching over her land and those people and land around her land. When she was looking for tomes and artifacts in Gatekeeper ruins in Towering Wood she came upon a druid of the warden of the wood named Farden Greenwood. After a period, of fighting and friendship, the two fell in love with each other and got married. When the year 956 YK came, Kara and Farden where some of the most active leaders in the battles. After the reaches got there independents the Ithen family “settled down” and had four children.
Kara is a woman that sits between two world and does not totally fit in to either one. She is a druid of some power, with a love for woods, fields, animals and plants. But she is also a noblewoman with money, land and a love for politics and there intrigues. Unlike most people in the Reaches she is always looking at what the Five Nations are doing. From the movements of foodstuff, that she has a stack in, to the new magic in play in the Five Nations. But she also keeps an eye at home as well watching the actions of the druids sects. Her goal is to get all the House of ir’Ithen land in order to protect it and the animal that live there. However she does not know what three of her four children are hiding.
Her oldest son follows in her foot steps. But her other two sons and daughter have moved far away from that path. Her second oldest son has join the druid sect the Greensigers sect, which his parents see as a sect full of crazy people. But Her two younger children have done worse things, her last son is a member of the Children of Winter. He stays away form the family most of the time and he lives rooms on the far side of the manor where he keeps is books, bugs and bones. Her daughter is not unlike her in anyway, her name is Avener and she is transmuter that is a worshiper of The Dragon Below. She became a transmuter when she found a daelkyr ruins in the woods. She lives even farther away form all of her family. She works on spells and transmutes in her rooms of the manor and plots on how she can gain control of the Ithen lands in the hopes of gaining money and power to work on the her transmuting and to gain artifacts and spells of the Daelkyr. If anyone ever found out about this they could use her to destroy her mother.
House of ir’Ithen
The Ithen are a half-elf noble family that has speared form the city of Thaliost to the high reaches of the church of the Sliver Flame, the shadows Royal Eye of Aundair and the Warden of the Woods. The Ithen line started in Thaliost before the kingdom of Galifar. They started off as a rich merchants in the city, controlling the shipping and textiles. The house became ennobled when the Galifar the 1st conquered Thaliost.

The house slowly grew over the centuries until 838YK when the regent of Aundair gave away large tracts in the eastern planes that will become The Eldeen Reaches. The leader of the line and holder of the noble title, Baron Daren ir’Ithen of Thaliost had to two children and his youngest of his children, Kara ir‘Ithen , saw the tracts of land as a way to get out of the city life and in to the nature she loved as well as giving a change of getting her own title instead of fading away as her bother lead the house. She bought land between the edge of The Towering Wood and what will become Havenglen, hindered a small band of rangers and used one of her family’s ship to sail to the eastern planes. As she exploring her new lands for a places to start building a manor for herself she found a Gatekeeper Observatory on a cliff. Seeing the beauty of the ruins and feeling the magic of nature in the places she built her manor around it. Kara spent 15 years learning the ways of a druid as well as creating field, orchards and vineyards with her lands. As she set up her estates he father die and her brother came to power. He and Kara never lot along and he thought that Kara she be giving most of the money she was getting to the family, meaning himself, but he also did not like what his sister was doing within the ruins she had found. After he had demanded most of were hard made money and publicly installed her, she broke tires with her brother. This event created the first two branches of the House ir’Ithen, with the Thaliost branch believe the other stole family land bought with family money and the other believe that the Thaliost branch is try to steal there land, try to destroy them in public and installed there druidic believes. The two branches continued to grow and gain power. The next event that change the house would also shape the history of two nations.

Tensions started to flare in the Thaliost branch when Baron Daven ir’Ithen of Thaliost die and left leadership of the line and the title to his twin sons, Tharden and Aven. With the political storm browning over the secession to the kingdom Galifar the twin started to fight over who they will support. Tharden wanted Wrogar because they were Aundairians and they believed that Mishann should rule but Aven was a follower of the Sliver Flame and believe that they should stand with Thalin because he had the divine right to the throne. The attack on Thaliost triggered the brake. As the invaders entered the city Aven and his follower join the attack in the hopes to gain power in Thrane. In the meantime Tharden and his followers got what ever they could get there hand on and fled the city but several where cut down my there own family. Aven was not disappointed after the Tharne won, he was reward with land of his former friends as well as getting an estate in Shadukar and the title of Count. He did have much time to enjoy this because he die in the attack on Shadukar. He left his land to his son and daughter, Dairden and Jolrana.

The two had very different views on the Church becoming rule of the country. Jolrana believed that the church had its place but not as ruler of the nation which makes her a Throneholder, some see herself as Queen Jolrana that she is named after and her bother hopes she meets the same end. Dairden became a bishop in the Church of the Sliver Flame. They made an agreement with each other to split the land and not talk to each other. This is not say they do not drag each other thought the mud. This subdivide the Thrane branch with Countess Jolrana ir’Ithen-ir’Marktaros in Tholiat and Dairden ir’Ithen-ir’Garthen leading his branch form Flamekeep. As the Thrane line gained in power the Aundair branch was regrouping and gaining in power. Many of the Tharden followers and himself made it on to some of the family ships. They made it to Fairhaven and stated to regroup. Tharden did not lead them in there regroup because he died in the counterattack to regain Thaliost. His money was left to his daughter Raven ir’Ithen. Raven felt the same way as her father so she joined the Royal Eye and set up a network of agents at her family ancient villa-manor on the shoes of Lake Galifar. Most of the mission she gives out has some thing to do with Thrane But she has started to move in to the Eldeen Reaches as well. She also owns shipping in the white roof district in Fairhaven and is closely related to House Lyrandar. She believe that she is the right heir to all the land held by the other braches.
